Privacy on a social app is a set of decisions, not one switch. Before changing ShareChat settings, decide what you want to achieve: limit a profile’s audience, stop contact from a particular person or report a specific piece of content. Use the control that matches that goal and check its result.

Begin with one goal: write down the person, audience or interaction you want to control. This keeps a privacy review focused and makes it easier to see whether a change helped.

Check your public-facing information first

Review your profile photo, bio and recent posts as information you are choosing to show. Look for details you did not intend to include: a phone number in a caption, an address in a photograph or private material in the background of a video. Consider the content itself as well as the account setting.

Where practical, use a view available to another consenting person to understand how the profile appears. Do not give someone your password to perform this check. The aim is to inspect the intended audience’s view, not to hand over account access.

Review the account’s privacy setting and followers

ShareChat’s help describes changing public or private status through Privacy in Settings. Use the controls shown in your version, then review the followers associated with the account. A setting change should not be assumed to retract screenshots or copies that were already shared elsewhere.

Take a small verification step after the change. Confirm the setting persisted and inspect how the profile appears where the app permits it. Do not treat a private label as a reason to post passwords, identity documents or other information you would not want copied.

Use blocking for a specific unwanted contact

Find the account carefully before using its block option, especially when several profiles have similar names or pictures. Check the identity through the interaction you are trying to stop. If you keep a record of the problem, capture the relevant details before closing the conversation or navigating away.

Review privacy and contact controls together if the problem persists through other accounts. Keep the focus on the observed behaviour. A block is a control over an interaction; it should not be confused with a platform decision about the content itself.

Make a report specific and readable

Use the report option attached to the relevant post, profile, comment or chatroom, and choose the reason that best matches what happened. ShareChat’s help directs users to a Reports area for status. Record the date and any reference provided instead of submitting many vague reports about the same event.

Prepare a short description: what happened, where it happened and which item should be reviewed. Keep relevant evidence, but crop unrelated messages and personal information. Do not send a password, OTP or payment credential to anyone claiming that it is required to process a report.

Revisit the settings after your routine changes

A person who only reads posts has different needs from someone who begins publishing videos or joining live conversations. When your use changes, review the profile information, the available audience controls and the device access relevant to the new task.

Make a note of the changes you chose and check that ordinary use still works. The objective is understandable control, not switching every option without knowing its effect. If a control seems unavailable or inconsistent, record the app version and screen before asking official support for help.
